I have been in the wheelchair, since the age of sixteen, from drinking and driving. I broke my neck and it left me paralyzed from the neck down, which is called a quadriplegic. I have my Associates in Criminal Justice and a Bachelors of Social Work. I have two children and a beautiful wife. I have always been an advocate for people with disabilities, one way or another, since my car wreck. I have spoke to many school age children, of all ages, in Illinois and Iowa. In Illinois, I started a disability advocacy group from scratch and am now it’s still operating. I was involved in writing, creating, and implementing the Mayor’s Commission for the Disabled. Also, I was chosen my the Department of Rehabilitation, through the State of Illinois, for the top twelve successful stories for a person that has a disability in 2004, which the honor was to be on the calendar sent throughout the state, so I am Mr. November. I am currently enrolled in a University receiving my Master’s in Elementary Education. I have written several poems and currently in the process of completing a children’s book. I love to write about motivation and inspirational stories that impact the community. - Leslie A. Johnson, BSW - lesndesi@yahoo.com |
